Strong Acids and Bases: Names and Formulas




The STRONG ACIDS are:

Hydrochloric acid: HCl
Hydrobromic acid: HBr
Hydroiodic acid: HI
Sulfuric acid: H2SO4
Nitric acid: HNO3
Perchloric acid: HClO4

The STRONG BASES are:

Lithium hydroxide: LiOH
Sodium hydroxide: NaOH
Potassium hydroxide: KOH
Calcium hydroxide: Ca(OH)2
Strontium hydroxide: Sr(OH)2
Barium hydroxide: Ba(OH)2

  1. In my chem class Chloric acid is also considered a strong acid.

  2. I believe it wasn't included in our list because it is unstable. Note that this list is not comprehensive, see superacids.
